Each state
governs its own laws with respect to the rights of Grandparents to be
able to have access or visitation with their grandchild. The state where
the child resides is the state law that would be applied. If you are a
member of the Grandparents Rights Organization you should have received
a copy of the state law you request as part of your membership. In
addition, members who need referrals to attorneys that specialize in
Family Law are provided names of individuals who have been admitted into
the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in your state. We are a
nonprofit organization and our yearly $40 membership donation is tax
deductible as we are a 501c organization. If you would like more
information send us your information and membership fee. You can access
the registration information from our website. You may also call our
national office at 248-646-7191.
With respect to Michigan's situation, be advised that I have taken the
case, pro bono to the Michigan Supreme Court in hope of overturning the
Court of Appeals decision that declared Michigan’s law to be
unconstitutional. The impact of Michigan’s high courts ultimate ruling
will most probably have an effect on all other state court decisions
regarding the constitutionality of each individual state grandparent
visitation law. The Grandparents Rights Organization is committed to
stopping the harm that has occurred to our families by recent media
stories that have lead people to believe that laws that protect
grandparents and grandchildren are in some way against our constitution.
Members of GRO will be notified of the final court decision immediately
after it is rendered. Thank you for your assistance and support.
Sincerely,
Richard S. Victor
